Plaza Agreement

Plaza Agreement

On 22nd September 1985 the Finance Ministers and Chairmen of the central banks of France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States of America reached an agreement on devaluing the dollar through coordinated interventions in respect of the DM and Yen.

The aim was to restore balance to trade flows. The agreement derives its name from the location of the conference, the New York Plaza Hotel.
